Cinema
The Isle of Man boasts two state of the art modern cinemas as well as a number of smaller venues which provide a more intimate setting.
The Palace Cinema in Douglas, which started life as the Palace Lido, is now the largest of the cinemas in the Isle of Man with two screens and a capacity of almost 400.
State of the art digital projector systems, including 3D projection, ensures visitors get an enhanced viewing experience every time, with multiple screenings during peak periods.
The Broadway Cinema located in the Villa Marina. This 154 seat venue is fully equipped with the latest cutting edge sound and projection equipment and screens the newest releases daily, as well as matinee performances for children at the weekends.
Theatre
Steeped in history and tradition, the Gaiety Theatre is one of the finest remaining examples of work from the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham.
The modern Villa Marina complex consists of a colonnade area, veranda, arcade and magnificent Royal Hall which seats 1500 and plays host to a year round programme of entertainment.
The spectacular auditorium which blends Edwardian grandeur, comfort and state of the art sound and lighting, welcomes top class musicians, comedians, bands, entertainers, DJs and personalities to the Isle of Man each year.
The 172 seat Studio Theatre is located within Ballakermeen High School, St Catherine's Drive, Douglas. The Theatre is used by both School Students presenting their shows and also Live Screenings from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House, RSA etc.
The Peel Centenary Centre is an arts and community center situated in Peel. It offers a diverse and interesting programme of events throughout the year including local and visiting musicians, theatre groups and a film club.
The Erin Arts Centre in Port Erin was founded in 1971 and has gone on to achieve international recognition for its range of prestigious festivals including the Manannan International Festival and the Barbirolli International Oboe Festival.
King's Court Theatre is based within King William's College, Castletown. The Theatre has a seating capacity of 215. The Theatre shows local productions and Live Screenings from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Royal Shakespeare Company. The theatre received the 'Best Cinema Experience' worldwide in 2015 and 2016 from More2screen and the Royal Opera House.
The Northern Theatre Experience @ Ramsey Grammar School is a comfortable, purpose-built lecture theatre based in the West Building on Lezayre Road, and seats 122 persons. The annual programme of live theatre screenings runs from September – July, with a wide range of productions including drama, comedy, musicals, Shakespeare, opera, ballet and family shows from West End venues, and further afield. There is full disabled access, with two dedicated wheelchair audience spaces. Our programme is supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.
Kensington Arts is a venue run by Culture Division within the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, which currently organises activities for young people aged 8 and upwards, to support and develop creative expression. These include weekly classes, workshops and projects. Formerly the Youth Arts Centre, the venue includes a 130 seat Theatre, a Dance Studio, Art Room, Band Practice Rooms and a Recording Studio.
