Thinking of Moving to the Island?
- Work permits are usually required if you have not been in education here or have lived here less than 5 years. The rules are complex, so please check with the Isle of Man Department of Trade & Industry www.gov.im/dti
- Usually work permits are only granted, however, when there are no suitable local applicants.
- Unemployment is low compared with many parts of the UK.
- There are many unfilled vacancies - including unskilled work in retailing, catering, and a range of occupations in the financial services sector. Information on many vacancies from the Job Centre: www.gov.im/dti/employment/jobsearch.aspx and IOM Newspapers: www.iomonline.co.im
- Housing and rental costs are high in comparison to some areas of the UK.
- The Isle of Man Government's website www.gov.im has a great deal of useful information about living on the Isle of Man.
If you are a parent, please bear in mind.
- Secondary and Primary schools have catchment areas - further details from the Department of Education website www.gov.im/education
- If your son/daughter is over 16 they may, if not remaining in full-time education, need a work permit.
- If your son/daughter is 15+ we are happy to advise on local opportunities
