About Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) Drivers
PPV Drivers
All PPV Drivers must be licensed with the RTLC, and are issued with a Driver Badge which must be worn or displayed in a visible position at all times.
The front of the badge displays the driver’s name, licence number, photograph, and the licence expiry date. The reverse of the badge indicates the type of vehicle(s) which the driver is authorised to drive, e.g. Ply for Hire Car up to 8 seats (taxi).
All new PPV Drivers must attend a 'Manx Welcome' training course in customer care. The course is optional for existing Drivers. Drivers who attend a course are issued with a 'Manx Welcome' lanyard and badge for easy identification.
A Code of Conduct has been issued for Taxi and Private Hire Car and Minibus Drivers, and this document can be sourced through the link at the bottom of this page.

Training Courses available to PPV Drivers
Manx Welcome

A specialist training course has been devised for all new Ply for Hire taxi and Private Hire car and minibus drivers, and the training is supported by the RTLC and the taxi industry.
The course focuses on two parts: -
- Customer Care - to assist Drivers in identifying the required standard and quality of service to the public
- Dealing with difficult customers - to assist Drivers in dealing effectively with complaints and difficult behaviour from a customer who feels their expectations have not been met
The course is compulsory for all new PPV Drivers, who must attend the course within 6 months of obtaining their PPV Driver Licence and Badge. Existing Operators and Drivers are also encouraged to attend the course.
If you would like to attend the 'Manx Welcome' training course, or would like further information on the course, please click on the 'Manx Welcome' link on the left hand side menu.
