Query map layers

It is possible to query information associated with particular map layers. A tourism attractions layer, for example, may have information such as opening times, contact details and entrance prices attached to each feature displayed on the map.

• Click on the Information Tool to select it.
• Click on the map feature for which you wish to retrieve information
• A “drill-down query” will then be performed and information relating to any features found at that point, in any selected map layers, will be displayed in the Map Information area.
• Use the scrollbar to scroll down to further information
• Click on the View button next to each set of feature information to zoom the map to that feature and highlight it

Notes:

1. Not all map layers appearing in the Layers List have queryable information associated with them.
2. A layer must be visible, i.e. ticked on in the Layers List, in order to retrieve information from it.
3. The content of the Information window will vary. The example opposite is for illustrative purposes only.
4. If your browser has Active Scripting (Javascript) disabled then the Information Tool will not be available. In this case, simply clicking on the map image will perform the same "drill-down query".
