Proposed Conservation Areas within the Southern Area Plan - To view the Draft Appraisal Documents and associated maps showing the proposed boundaries for towns and villages identified as having the potential for Conservation Area status, click here. Any comments on the proposal to designate a Conservation Area may be put in writing to the Department’s Conservation Officer by close of business on Friday 5th March 2010.

The Department is now consulting on a revision of the draft proposed Development Order, Cooil Road, Braddan, the effect of which would be to grant Planning Approval in Principle for the industrial development of approximately 20 hectares of land lying in the Parish of Braddan.

Following refurbishment, The Western Civic Amenity site reopened on Monday 18th January 2010 at 8am. Opening hours will be Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm. Fridges and freezers are now being accepted at this site.

New system introduced for Mutual Exchanges of Public Sector Houses.

The Minister for Local Government and the Environment, John Shimmin, MHK, is pleased to welcome Tim Crookall, MHK, and Quintin Gill, MHK, to the Department. Mr. Crookall, MHK, joins the Department as Member for the Estates & Housing Directorate, Mr Gill, MHK, joins as Member with responsibility for the Waste Management Unit, whilst Mr Juan Watterson, MHK, has now assumed responsibility for Planning & Building Control and is the new Chairman of the Planning Committee.

With effect from 31 May 2009, grants are no longer available for non-means tested energy efficiency measures for houses.

Housing survey shows improvement in private living conditions.

With effect from 1 April 2009 the Planning Application fees and the Building Control Application fees have changed. These are to be found in the Town and Country Planning (Fees for Application) Order 2009 and Building Control (Fees) Regulations 2009 respectively.Safe Gas Register logo

Gas Safe Register. Please follow the link for details of the Gas Safe Register which replaced CORGI gas registration in Great Britain and the Isle of Man on 1 April 2009. It is the official stamp for gas safety.
