Syria (Cultural Property)

This page provides guidance on the UK’s sanction regime, as it has effect in the Island, relating to Syria (Cultural Property).

The Syria (United Nations Sanctions) (Cultural Property) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 have effect in the Isle of Man by the Sanctions (Implementation of UK Sanctions) Regulations 2024 ('the Regulations'), which are made under the Sanctions Act 2024. This regime imposes trade sanctions for the purpose of giving effect to the Island’s obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2199 (2015).  That resolution includes an obligation to take steps to prevent the trade in Syrian cultural property and other items of archaeological, historical, cultural, rare scientific and religious importance illegally removed from Syria since 15 March 2011, thereby allowing for their eventual safe return to the Syrian people.

Individuals and entities who are designated under this regime are included on the UK sanctions list.
